'Sir, you're not the only person who's had someone die today!'

So while Devil Wears Prada = Overhyped and Awful in Scribblesland, may I recommend a film I've just seen which is very under-hyped and yet the most wonderful film I think I've seen all year?

Three words: Little. Miss. Sunshine.

Best feelgood factor since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Films with 'Sunshine' in the title and references to Neitzche... apparently a good sign!), a great take on the traditional Screwball Road Trip genre as well as thoroughly outdoing films like American Beauty and The Royal Tenenbaums when it comes to Dysfunctional Family Life. Fabulous script & direction, and an absolutely amazing ensemble cast - adults and kids alike. Thank God for films like this that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside without coating you in an inch-thick layer of sacherine! Deserves a nomination at least for Best Film, but I doubt it'll get one. The little girl might get nominated because she's fantastic in a non-Dakota-Fanning-scary-Midwich-Cuckoo kinda way.

Silly Season

Tis evidentally the season for weird, weird news stories. Not only does everybody from Tabloid Rags to the Beeb seem perfectly happy to publish/broadcast interviews with the chief suspect in the Ipswich Mass Murder case (Buh? Surely this potentially impedes his trial! This whole sorry affair has been turned into a ghoulish Media Circus from the start, IMO - It can't be making matters any more bearable for the womens' families) but also today we have:
