My knowledge of it is very patchy, but haven't the phases of the moon often been linked with temporary insanity throughout the ages - hence 'Lunatic', the whole werewolf thing and the association between women (and their menstrual cycless) with the moon and insanity? Maybe it's not PMS. Maybe it's the moon.
