Prompted by violetcreme, and because I'm feeling a bit blue today, I have decided to share my favourite 'ships with thou lovely bunch.
Let's start off with my favourite, the Potentially Oh-So-Steamy, yet contraversial...
1, Eric 'The Cavalier' and Diana 'The Acrobat' - Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon.
*ducks rotten fruit being pelted from many of the other D&DC Fans*
Yes, I know it takes some imagination, there's never any real proof that they fancy each other in the toon, just a a couple of little moments, but then apart from the odd suggestive hug there's little proof of the Hank/Sheila love (and yet they are still so dull - the Brad & Janet of the Realm!) In fact, as I have said before, I wouldn't suggest that Diana particularly fancies Eric in the Toon, although I think he's definately got a crush on her. Basically, I love sparky, argumentative couples, and they can both be very aggressive towards one another, but often with a flirtatious edge to it. They're well matched in some ways (both dogmatic and fiercley independant to the point of being quite lonely) and the exact opposite in others. Plus they look great together. I love them - that is, I love the Concept of Eric/Diana.
2, Philip J Fry & Turanga Leela - Futurama
I wanted Fry & Leela to get together so badly in Futurama! I loved their skirting around each other in the first couple of series (The Titanic Episode... *sigh*), and once Fry properly fell for her I loved how pure and childlike his adoration is of her, how he loves her for herself, Eyeball and all. 'Time keeps On Slipping' nearly made me cry. At least we get to see them walking off into the sunset together at the end, even though it was Fry's fantasy I believe that he was finally able to win her over. He made a deal with the Robot Devil to impress her, for God's sake!
3, Tim Bisley & Daisy Steiner - Spaced
I loved them so much I wanted Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson to get married! Maybe it's because both Tim & Daisy remind me of me, and my love of that couple's just a giant ego trip on my part, who can say. You know they're both unlucky in love, you know they're both made for each other, but dammit, they have to keep teasing us with all those Nearly Kisses. Love 'em.
4, Niles Crane & Daphne Moon - Fraiser
So the show went downhill when they got together - surely that's a sign that their Will They/Won't They relationship before was a huge driving force behind the show. I don't care about the loss of momentum when they ended up in the Winnabago together, I had wanted that moment so very badly for years and years. I love Niles, he's so well written and well performed (David Hyde Pierce is another of my Underated Kings Of Physical Comedy, along with La Reynolds and The Heavenly Dr Garden) and he deserved to get the woman of his dreams after years of Hellish frustration. It was funnier when she didn't know, but Hell. I'll settle for a happy ending once in a blue moon.
5, Samuel Vimes and Lady Sybil Ramkin - Discworld
My very favourite Discworld couple. A jaded Copper and a gutsy Aristocrat with a Sick Dragon Sanctuary. I fell utterly in love with both Sam and Sybil the first time I read them. They're so mismatched, yet so good for each other. I need to read 'Thud' at some point, I've been getting disallusioned with Pratchett of late but I do love my Vimes.
Here's some more (played out and potential) that I love, sans explanation:
Han & Leia - Star Wars
Obi Wan & Padme - Crap New Star Wars (OK, it never happened, but it should have, dammit! *There's* a love triangle to write home about!)
Jim and Selina - 28 Days Later
Joel & Clementine - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Seymour & Audrey - Little Shop Of Horrors
Beatrice & Benedick - Much Ado About Nothing
Jack Skellington & Sally - Nightmare Before Christmas
Zoe & Wash - Serenity/Firefly (still traumatised!)
Monica & Chandler - Friends
And I'll finish with another piece of D&DC Controversy - Hank & Venger, because the Big V blatantly fancies that boy. Blatant!
