WRITER'S MEME: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of the top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.1, JANAPURNA
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2382648/1/ - the first prose story I wrote for D&DC set during the series, and in my opinion I have yet to better it (which is a tad depressing!) I was ridiculously tickled by the concept of Hank, Eric and Presto all trying to impress the same girl, and resorting to fisticuffs when that wouldn't work, I was amused by the girls' reactions, I was proud of Malison as a villain and my Bobby In Peril subplot and very pleased indeed at how Janapurna herself turned out. I always end up laughing when I read it, which I know is a cardinal sin for comedy writers but there you go!
2, THE CALL HOME aka Part 1 of the New Adventures
http://www.randomscribbles.co.uk/dnd/ep1_1.html - because I wrote it so voraciously once I'd come back from Honeymoon with the whole thing, already written in my head. Because it sparked off so many ideas and lead to such a huge story arc which I'm still only 2/3 through. Because it's the first piece of fanfic I ever wrote and I still think it's as good as stuff I'm writing now, nearly 3 years on. I'm just very close to this piece of fic emotionally.
3, REMAIN THE SAME - FLEETING
http://r-scribbles.livejournal.com/86880.html#cutid1 (SPOILERS FOR RTS!) - I wrote this nearly a year ago now and I still haven't caught up with it enough to fit it into the rest of Remain the Same - there's still about 5 months of narrative to go. For all the fun I've been having in RtS with Spike & Lynda bickering their way to a closer, more adult relationship and the glory of ColFish being saucy and random this is my favourite since it puts the original 5 main characters back together - physically squeezing them all into a car and driving them out of Norbridge, and then tears them apart so they can never be together again. I took chunks wholesale from my Dad's death for the bedside vigil so it has a lot of emotional meaning to me. Fleeting is - or will be - the emotional heart of RtS, and a massive catylist for the two couples that the story centres around. Since I knew from fairly early on in RtS that I was going to do this I've been able to fit future echoes in. It was also good fun to write some fanfic in 1st person, which I don't usually do.
4, I NEED TO TALK -
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3084491/1/ - Again with the Emo Press Gang! I wrote this story really fast - in just a couple of days. It just all came pouring out. I'm pretty proud of Lynda and Colin as 10 year olds and Lenny, once I got him, felt really right. Again, I feel very emotionally attached to the story, and to the anger between Col and Lenny. I've known a couple of people who suffered abusive childhoods, sadly, and tried to channel the fear and fury that they described. I also really love writing Colynda friendship. It's so deliciously idiosyncratic.
5, THE WHITE QUEEN aka part 7 of the New Adventures
http://www.randomscribbles.co.uk/dnd/ep7_1.html - My first foray into prose in the New Adventures, done deliberately due to the literary nature of the villainess and my first crossover. This was inspired by The League of Extraordinary Gentleman's Almanack, which briefly mentionned Alice. I really enjoyed mixing Wonderland with the Realm and darkenning it all with Alice's complete descent into insanity... the fact that Alice's Wonderland is fucked up even by Realmic standards amused me. This was also where I got to delve quite deeply into the shadowy recesses of the characters' minds and memories, and decided that Uni could talk after all, which was a bit random. It was also where I decided that Presto, for one, is now stuck in the Realm for good and it was nice to see what Terri was up to back on Earth.
Don't want to single out any particular five of you... basically, if you write, consider yourself tagged.
