Windscreen is now fixed. Just shy of £100. *sigh*
I'm not sure about these proposals to limit young drivers -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6904821.stm - I understand the thinking behind it, and yes, I've seen very young drivers haring around like idiots, but I think it unnecessarily tars all young drivers with the same brush, is over complicated and would be very hard to enforce. I started driving lessons at 17 and passed first time, and would sometimes give my friends lifts to the cinema or other friends houses in the evening, which technically wouldn't be allowed under these proposals, even though I was a very sensible driver. The vast majority of idiot drivers I see are middle aged in massive cars, overtaking like maniacs just because their expensive car has the acceleration to do so, chatting (even texting) on their mobiles and refusing to stop or indicate at roundabouts or junctions, but pick on Johnny 4x4 or Jenny School Run and all of a sudden your road safety proposals are either Orwellian or Stalinist. Pick on the 17 year old fast learner and it's just grown ups telling kids what's best for them, which is natural and good.
One proposal does sound like an excellent idea, though, is the zero alcohol one - one which I think should be implemented for all, not just 18 year olds. I think that would save a lot of lives.
