Aug. 25th, 2007 08:10 pmSince Vi got her own room I've started taking her up early, sitting with her and telling her a story there until she nods off. Thing is, I can't read one since a, I like to keep the room dark and b, a book within page grabbing/crumpling/tearing reach would be too distracting for Pootle. So it's been fairy tales 'from memory.' And, by 'eck, they're hard to tell off the top of your head! Luckily she's so little that she doesn't notice the big chunks of plot that I keep forgetting and having to go back to. Just ended Hansel & Gretel with 'and when they got back, they found out that their stepmother had died, and... um... oh yes, the witch had had a big pile of treasure hidden away that they'd found when Gretel killed her and so they never went hungry again!' Shall have to hone my oral storytelling skills.
Hubs got me my Anniversary prezzie today - Stripy Jumper! Whee!

...although it was really, really hot today and probably will for at least the long weekend now. To the back of the dressing table with you, pretty jumper!
Did I mention Vi's walking now? With help, obviously, she still can't balance, and can't even sit without support for more than a minute or so. But she pulls herself up on furniture all the time and loves grabbing a parent's hands and tottering around the house, especially to look into the washing machine and laundry basket, for some reason. Very bad for our backs, since she's still so little we have to stoop to reach her hands. We've finally started putting little pram shoes on her (we didn't bother with footwear before, since it was always being kicked off) but I had a look online at Proper Shoes for walking babies - Thirty quid?!?!? my shoes don't cost thirty quid! It'll probably be a few months before she's steady enough for me to be happy letting her walk outdoors, but do any of you mums out there know shops that do decent outdoor baby shoes that don't cost an arm and a leg?
We've eaten all the custard :(
Have decided that the end of RtS (fast approaching now!) is to involve Travel Scrabble, a Trusthouse Forte, a tourbus and the following lines:
'Don't take this personally, but the last time I played you at Scrabble, I did sort-of want to rip out my own intestines, just to have something to throttle you with.'
'I'm dying! I've got terminal... heart cancer!'
'Would you lot please stop stealing Kenny?'
and 'Are we nearly there yet?'
