Oct. 26th, 2007 07:38 pmHad some techno woe today when our Broadband hub decided to just go 'Oh For Fuck's Sake' and collapse in a heap like a swooning damsel. For once the BT Helpline Elves A, didn't keep me waiting on hold for a million years ("unusually high volume of calls" my eye... it's not "unusual" when you're *always* getting that message!) and B, were actually able to help me sort it eventually, which was nice.
Also amused by this week's Adscene (the Hell Paper I used to work for) Can you tell it's now owned by the Daily Heil with the headline 'City Prison Is Just For Foreigners', the front page article including completely non-inflammatory, well considered writing like this:
"...it means that chips have been replaced by curries on the menu and the traditional prison chapel has been revamped into a multi-faith worship hall to cater for a wider range of religions. Although just yards from Canterbury Cathedral, the city's jail no longer has a cross on permanent display. It is hidden in a cupboard."
OMFG IT'S POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD! Curry instead of chips? The horror! THE HORROR! They're hiding a cross in JESUS' CITY! Not that I don't think it's concerning that the guvvyment now feels the need to segregate Convicts with British passports from those without, or that there's enough of the latter to fill two prisons, I just think sweeping comments on 'Un British' food and faiths is needlessly antagonistic and altogether missing the point.
And then I open it up to see the infamous Clive Wilkins-Oppeller (every town has their nutter who writes pointless letters to the editor so often that he seems to think he's a freelance columnist - Clive is ours!) asking 'Why do manufacturers feel the need to construct fireworks that go bang?' He wants all fireworks to be silent, you see. Only yobs like ones that go bang. The man is a genius.
