The world just got a little bit more evil. Huzzah.
I have loathed and despised the concept of Business Sponsored 'Academies' from the moment I heard about it (the Simpsons' futuristic Maths Sponsored By Pepsi class pretty much sums it up in my mind) and this is the reason why.
Why would big businesses want to - basically, own - their own school? What do they have to gain from it? There must be something to get back in return for the spend, because otherwise they wouldn't do it. It's sinister and horrible and icky and wrong. One step, in my mind, away from getting private companies to sponsor the NHS, in return for which you get 'this apendectomy was brought to you by McCain's Oven Chips' tattooed beneath your scar.
