- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
I was asked:
1) What is your favourite pairing in BBC Sherlock fandom and why?
Although I ship Sherlock/Jim in the show and could watch Sherlock & John interact with one another until the cows come home my favourite fandom pairing has become Sherlock/Lestrade. Their relationship isn't the sort that can fall into the sort of loveydovey romance that really turns me off a lot of Sherlock/John fics - there's an antagonism there, as well as a begrudging mutual respect. Also, I just think Graves-Lestrade is sexier than John or Jim. There's an earthy, worldy-wise (and world weary), very masculine aspect to him that makes an attractive contrast with Sherlock's other-worldly, arrogant, faintly androgynous weirdness. I'm also very drawn to Sherlock/Sally (hitting my smart-alec White boy/BAMFY lady of Colour antagonism-turning-to-sex kink), although that's rarer than rare.
2) What character would you like to have more screen time in Sherlock series 2 than series 1?
MOAR LADIES. We're going to see Irene and while she won't be how the RP has made me picture her, I am still excited about this. I would love to see more Molly (not taking any of Sherlock's shit this time), more Sarah (being the thrill seeking, no-nonsense boss we see in the show, possibly helping fic writers everywhere remember she's not the vanilla stick-in-the-mud they keep writing) and Sally being a BAMF - generally doing more than having her legs examined & shouting 'Freak'.
3) What's your dream career?
Professional comedy writer/occasional comedy performer
4) Has having children changed the way you write?
Only practically. Having kids changes your daily schedule considerably. I don't have time to just sit for hours on end and really get into a writing kick - instead, I have to write in one or two hours bursts. It does make me want to write more though, since I've always needed some sort of creative outlet & the kids mean I don't have time to commit to acting any more - writing's the only outlet I have time for since I can just sit & write when I have chance.
5) What's the strangest fandom you've ever been in?
I wouldn't call any of them 'strange', as such. I've been active in the Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon fandom, Press Gang fandom, TNG fandom, Lost fandom & now Sherlock (and Cumberholmes, I suppose, being both a fanwork and a fandom of its own), and I've enjoyed them all in different ways. The smaller fandoms are easier to get very involved in, probably a little bit friendlier & closeknit, but if/when a bad apple turns up it's more bothersome. One thing I will say about the Sherlock fandom is that some @ replies I get in the RP have shown me windows into a few fans' feelings about Sherlock/Benny that I find rather unhealthy - a handful actually a little unpleasant. Kathy Bates unpleasant. I;m sure that this goes on in almost every fandom, it's just that I get brought into these girls' fantasies more due to Cumberholmes.
