30 Days Fic Meme - Day 3
Sep. 3rd, 2011 01:33 pm3 – For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?
D&DC - Eric. Snarky, flawed, lots of comic potential but a great depth of pathos & potential for Heroism, in spite of his superficial cowardice & selfishness. This pushes pretty much all of my buttons for my idea of a great protagonist for my stories. I also really enjoy writing Presto & Sheila in this fandom. They're both very sweet & self-doubting, and nice to write dialogue and interior monologues for.
Press Gang - Colin, since he's a very similar character type to Eric's. Lynda, Spike, Sarah & Kenny are also great fun to write. It's always fun trying to think up the sort of witty banter the Moff would have written for them.
TNG - Although Data's my favourite in terms of protagonists for my stories, I actually prefer writing Deanna, Will, Tasha, Lore & Q. Tasha's got the whole wounded, flawed hero thing going on, Deanna's warm & witty, Lore's a brilliantly fun psychopath, Q a brilliantly fun sociopath and Will's just Will. I don't write Will very much, hardly ever use his POV, but I love writing dialogue for him.
Cumberholmes - The Porcelain Messiah himself. Ridiculous man. Also, our Irene. I want to be her.
Sherlock - I actually find BBC Canon Sherlock very hard to write from Sherlock's POV - partially because I keep falling back into the silly, cartoonish RP version of him and partially because it's quite hard to get into his head. I find it much easier to use John's POV, reacting to Sherlock. Well... that's canon, I suppose. Lestrade's a good one to use, as well.
Cabin Pressure - Martin's my perfect protagonist - lovable loser, flawed, great potential for pathos & heroism. But Douglas, Arthur & Carolyn are all just delightful to write dialogue for.
