30 Days Fic Meme - Days 25 & 26
Sep. 26th, 2011 02:13 pm25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
I generally write without music - partly because I find it rather distracting in general & partly because I only get time to write when Alex is asleep & the computer's right under the kids bedroom so I like to keep things as quiet as poss. However, I often get ideas for scenes while listening to music on my MP3 player - generally what I'll do then is listen to that song over & over again while I work the scene out in my head, then write it out later. I have been known to 'act out' certain bits of the scene without realising I'm doing it during this process - very odd looks if I'm out walking!
26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
I barely used to research at all when I was writing D&DC & Press Gang fic. For TNG fic, most of my research was about technicalities of the Trek universe, but for Cumberholmes & Sherlock and Cabin Pressure fic, I am CONSTANTLY Googling & Wiki-ing.
( These are all genuine & just a fraction of what pops up on my Google search bar of things that I've looked up over the last few months for RP/fic purposes. )
