So as I mentioned I was able to watch the latest Eppie of Lost yesterday.

Bleh. Jack-centric episode. However, I love that he is by now so utterly clueless and self-absorbed that an episode showing them all actually going to the island barely shows you anything about how they all ended up on the flight together. Also - Jack & Kate Sexytime. Blech. It seemed like a last-time thing from her attitude. Let's hope it stays that way.

So I'm guessing that Mysterious Asian Man ends up on the island too... Maybe a proxy for WAAAAAAAAAAALT? I'm wondering whether Aaron ended up not going because he didn't actually 'arrive' on the island, but was born there. Pretty sure that the woman with Sayid must be a proxy, too. No idea who for, though. And surely, Ben can't go back to the island. Maybe that was why he went to a different part of the plane - he knew the flash was coming and that he couldn't be in it. I don't think Des needs a Proxy since he came to the island by boat - seconding [livejournal.com profile] katje0711's suggestion that he and his family may well find themselves back at the island next time they try to sail somewhere. Personally, I think that Ben reading 'Ulysses' on the plane might be a reference to this, but then I get a giddy little thrill every time I can even tenuously link Desmond's story to Odysseus'.

I'm still toying with the idea that Charlie Hume might end up becoming Charlie Pace, but now I'm also convinced that Aaron ends up back in time and becomes Jack's grandfather Ray. Ray seems to be important, he turned up at the same time that Aaron mysteriously vanished from Kate's life, and I think it's in keeping with Lost to throw in the 'Becoming/Killing Your Own Grandfather' theory of time travel paradox.

Liked the linking of Locke's sacrifice with the story of Jesus' sacrifice (and, if one continues down that line, resurrection). One thing about the use of Christianity in Lost, however - what's with all the Catholicism? Seriously, every major mention of it is to do with the Catholic denomination - I don't know whether it's because Protestantism lends itself less to iconography and a mystical nature, but still. Can't remember whether Rose is a Catholic or not, but if she isn't I think she's the only practicing Christian on the show who isn't.

Anyhoo, I'm glad they're back on the island again, even though we'll doubtless now be put through several episodes of flashback angsting and emoing as we find out what compelled the other guys to return.

And poor Benj! I think the third rule of Lost (after 'No Body = Not Dead' and 'Women And Black Men = Far More Likely To Die') must be 'Every series, Locke must mangle his leg/s and Ben must have seven shades of shazbat kicked out of him'. The fourth rule of Lost is 'If a Redshirt gets a line, they're toast'.
