Remake after remake after remake
May. 1st, 2006 10:37 pmI went to the cinema this evening. The trailers I saw were for The Omen, Mission Impossible, Superman and The Poseidon Adventure. Apparently I had slipped through some sort of vortex and into the late 70s. I didn't even know they were remaking The Omen and Poseidon Adventure!
(actually, I might see Poseidon. It looks quite nifty. I liked the original. Kinda tempting fate calling a ship 'Poseidon', though... a little like building a big, metal weather station on top of a mountain and calling it 'Thor'.)
The actual film was Slither, with the lovely Nathan 'Mal Reynolds' Fillion. Slightly patchy in parts (I don't know if the rape scene was supposed to be funny, but it was all weird and horrible) but in all a good, unusual, low budget comedy horror - think 8 Legged Freaks mashed with Braindead. I just wish horror movies didn't feel they needed to resort to corny 'Jumpy' tactics. My favourite Monster films don't do that at all.
I liked the Sweary Mayor, though!
