Hmm! A discussion with Mister Chode regarding the possible ban of violent pornography on t'interweb has led to a further discussion with hubs regarding the nature of rapes and violent sexual attacks in general.

We came to the conclusion that the theory that these attacks were *all* about power, and not sex is bollocks, since if sexuality didn't come into it at all the victims of said crimes wouldn't largely be female - more men would be sexually assaulted as a part of violent assaults by straight men if it had *nothing* to do with sexuality, surely. (And yes, I know it's true that this does sometimes happen, and young men have been known to rape little old ladies and whatnot - I'll agree that power does come into it but rape victims are more often than not a partner, ex partner or has previously rejected the attacker's... subtler advances... and most people you hear about who are randomly sexually attacked by strangers are young women).

So what's with the claim, often from Feminist movements, that rape is not about sexual desire? Could it be to try to bring to an end the appalling humiliation that the victims in rape trails sometimes face, having their sexual past, clothes and manner publicly scruitinised, to see whether she was, in some way, asking to be raped?

There is a brief tangent taken as Hubs ruminates upon the unfairness of crimes against property generally receiving harsher punishments than crimes against the person. Then he comes out with doozy:

'You'd never hear of a Judge throwing a shoplifting case out of court because he felt that the shop was displaying the goods that were stolen too provocatively. "We find the defendant innocent of stealing a tin of processed peas from Tesco PLC. The plaintiff had not only lasciviously advertised said peas upon the television and the internet, but was also at the time of the alleged theft, wearing visible posters in full view of the defendant, enticing him with promises of succulent goodness and a slightly minted flavour. In my opinion, the plaintiff was Asking For It. Now get the Hell out of my courtroom!"'

Makes you think, don't it?
