30 Days Fic Meme - Days 10 & 11
Sep. 11th, 2011 08:07 pm10 - Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
I really can't write Sherlock/Jim at all, despite me loving its harassment-tastic hate!sexosity. I've scoffed at some of the Sherlock/Jim fic I've read, which hasn't been of the best quality, but I've tried writing it twice now, and it's really very difficult to do well. I think my own Sherlock/Jim fic really isn't my best work at all.
As for pairings I don't care for - generally I just don't bother writing it, that's all. I suppose I've written sexualised Sherlock/John, but that was mainly for parody purposes, or as part of an orgy. I prefer to write them doing weird, sexy-yet-innocent things together, like platonic bathsharing & making Fake Sex Noise in Welsh.
Similarly, for some reason I just can't write Press Gang or TNG smut. I don't know why. Even with the pairings that I really root for, I end up cutting to the metaphorical fireplace.
11 – Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
Action/Adventure, or some sort of character based mystery - with side orders of friendship and/or romance, smatterings of angsty hurt/comfort on occasion and almost always a good helping of comedy stirred in. It's very rare that I don't bung some jokes into my fics. Even with my porn, the sex often plays second fiddle to the jokey banter. I just can't help myself.
